Construction on the Nouns School site started officially on 10th April, 2024 after a 3 month approval process with the local government of Uganda. We kicked off with the Foundation for all the 7 new blocks which are Administration Block, Tech Block, Lower Primary Block, Upper Primary, Pump and Electrical house, Kitchen and Dining.
As we continue to celebrated the progress of the Nouns School project, we acknowledge the challenges faced in delivering the community water part of the initiative.
The drilling company we hired encountered significant difficulties, as their heavy drilling truck was unable to navigate the steep and rugged roads of the Rift Valley. Prioritizing safety above all, we have decided to delay the water project by an additional 30 days while we seek alternative solutions.
Despite this setback, our commitment to providing a reliable water source for the school and surrounding community remains unwavering. We are staying positive and proactive, confident that with perseverance and support, we will overcome this obstacle and achieve our goal.
The first water drilling team was not the only team to face the escarpment challenges, given the sloped nature of the rift valley, our Foundation for the buildings also ended up sucking alot of Construction materials because we had to do a stepped Foundation
The Foundation is a very important function of the building and it determines the core strenght and durability of any structure. For this project, i personally decided to make a very strong and earthquake resistant foundation as this region in the rift-valley is prone to tremours and mild earthquakes.
The groundbreaking ceremony was a momentous occasion attended by community leaders, parents, and enthusiastic children, all united by the shared vision of a better tomorrow. As we embark on this exciting project, we look forward to the continued support and involvement of our community in making the Nouns School a beacon of excellence in education.

A Nounish Community Intergration and acceptance of this cryptographically funded construction program for a community based school which is intertwinned to a public water production well can help supercharge the nouns eco system when it comes to proliferation using public goods
After the catastrophic failure of the first drilling attempt, we switched to support from Ministry of Water and Environment, Uganda coordinators who suggested a more trusted water drilling supplier Named OPTIMUM EARTH (U) LTD who was able to take the earlier collected Water Survey Data of a 100m water reservoir well and was only able to secure only 500 ltrs per hr instead of the agreed 5000 ltrs per hour hybrid motorised community water well
NB: The newly drilled well was not "humanely potable drinking water" - directed by Ministry Of Water and Mineral Development consultancy for community consumption because the well drilled has an Iron (Fe) concentration of 7.3mg/l which is over 95 % above the acceptable drinking potable water fit for human consumption by Ministry of Water and Environment, we were advised to abandon well due to the negligence of the 3rd party drilling company losing over 30m of well due to the soft formation collapse that was experienced during the drilling operation which lasted only 2 days.
Drilling report by Optimum Earth is shown below and is pending presentation to the community for further consideration and way forward.
The consultancy we had with the Ministry of Water and Environment in Uganda, we are now to focus on rain water harvesting on all the roofs of the school. During the rainy season we expect to harvest about 40,000 ltrs of water which will be used as the water source for the community.
This sets us on a path to solve the water crisis in this region collaborating with the Ugandan government and its Donor partners. We hope to engage the Government to utilize the Water reservoirs in excess of 60,000 ltrs that we have built on the school site.
Providing the community with Safe drinking water is going to be a long term project beyond what Nouns has been able to achieve.

This proposal is one of the most meaningful things Nouns DAO has taken on. It’s not just a project, it’s a real mission to change lives in Uganda through education. Davin has been transparent about the challenges with the water and budget, which is refreshing. Instead of padding the budget like some sketchy contractor, he’s come back with an honest ask, which definitely earns trust.
Cutting the solar energy part is understandable, but it’s like skipping dessert. Sure, the meal was great, but you know it could’ve been better with the full experience. Solar would have been key for long-term sustainability, so maybe finding extra funding for it would be smart. The water issue? Rainwater harvesting is clever, but it feels like betting on the weather. Securing a more solid fix would go a long way.
As for the Nouns meme spread, I get the concern. But honestly, proliferation should come from funding impactful projects like this, not paying people to scream "Nouns" into the void. The lasting impact of this school will do more for Nouns than any quick brand push. This is legacy stuff, and that’s worth way more.
Very comprehensive documentation of progress and status quo, well done!!
Best of luck with pushing this towards completion!

Big supporter of this prop and building the school in general. It's one of the highlights among things Nouns has done. It was a really cheap budget for an entire school build and with so many moving parts, I'm not surprised it went over budget a bit. I've been following closely, being friends with Davin and it's been an amazing journey. Huge props to Davin for getting this done. Amazing work!
This school will last for a long time and every single kid that goes there will know at least something about Nouns. That to me is wild. I love it.
Onward!
My vote won’t affect the outcome, and I have nothing against education in Uganda, but per my recent prior votes I no longer think it is responsible for us to be supporting IRL pseudomarketing efforts - I don’t see it as long term accretive to Nouns DAO nor an effective way to proliferate our meme. Frownish.

Proposal 477 has to be the biggest tasks we've seen undertaken in the DAO. Davin's work is set to impact countless lives, and it’s impossible to quantify the positive outcomes this will bring. Hats off for getting this far, despite the challenges that come with construction.
A common buffer could have been included in the budget sure, but maybe it’s better for transparency to come back for a re-ask rather than having large leftover funds if everything goes smoothly.
We cannot wait for this proposal to be completed—it will be something very special that we can all be proud of.
One of the most complex Nouns projects to date, by someone who doesn't even own a Noun, and is working in a developing country where resources are limited compared to many other places.
Projects always run over estimates when they are complex. Even in software where there are often very few people or moving parts. So big ups to Davin for being so transparent and for doing everything with such passion and good spirit.
In my opinion, this project will go down as one of the most impactful and valuable things we've ever done. The content alone is worth what we've paid when you compare the deliverables of this project to what we get from builders in more developed countries such as the United States.
We should do WAY MORE in places like Africa and South East Asia, and enjoy the fruits of our ETH going much further. Much love and respect Davin.
So stoked that you came into Gnars so early on and I'm really proud of how much you've shined ever since.
You're a king bru!
This will be one of the most impactful props. I love to think about how inspired students will be, seeing their school and second home be transformed. This change in their lives can inspire them, and the rest of the community to dream bigger and tap into new human coordination mechanisms and opportunities. I wish we had 10 of these around the world.
Props to Davin for all of the coordination and love that he's invested so far to make this dream a reality! Hell yes to getting this over the finish line and changing these kids lives ⌐◨-◨
