there's something really genuine and grassroots about the esports community that feels very nounish to me. share krel's sentiment here in wanting to pull on this string further. excited to see what comes from this LAN party! have fun all!
love the story behind this prop ⌐◨-◨
Launders LAN 1 was a highly successful grassroots LAN in NA, where the whithering CS2 scene desperately needs more tournaments to hone young talent into aspiring professionals. Launders details many ways Nouns will be integrated as the title sponsor in LL2, and (in the replies) Launders describes his vision for a global circuit of LANs powered by Nouns. Presenting Nouns repeatedly in front of eager young gamers will inspire curious minds to wonder "What are Nouns and where did they come from?" (This is basically why I'm here today.)
Canada is home to many current top NA pros and talent, and has been under-utilized by the Tier-1 LAN event circuits. Holding more grassroots LANs will show T1 events that Canada is a strong contender for future T1 events. IEM Dallas is held in Dallas by Dreamhack every year. A Major will be held by Blast in Austin next year. Both of these tournament operators have experience holding NA CS events in US, but we can't let the States have all the fun. Perhaps this is the first step towards a Nounish CS2 Major in Canada.
I didn’t even know who Launders was at the time, but he went to bat for our DAO in front of tens of thousands of hardcore CS fans with no expectation of return, calling us "the sickest DAO ever"
Every day we have more & more people taking up the good fight defending Nouns in the realm of esports & gaming because they truly understand how we're different from the bad actors in our space. Reddit comments on announcements have gone from mostly-negative to being spirited debates on the nuance of being onchain. Having someone with as large of a brand as Launders taking up this cause more overtly is going to be a potential gamer changer. Excited to be in Toronto and please reach out if you know any nounsfolk who want to attend! GG
backing launders would be a huge win for the DAO. He's a well-known content creator with a big following, especially in the counter-strike scene, where a lot of his audience is already into crypto.
Nouns Esports was given the mission to grow the DAO through esports, and this is a prime opportunity to do just that. Through our involvement in Counter-Strike, we've attracted a top-tier operator who can significantly elevate the DAO’s presence in both esports and crypto communities.
it's a hell yes from me
Esports is the perfect formula to bring Nouns to the masses. LAN has been successful in organizing esports and has its own market. This is a collaboration that will add more to the Nouns Esports community!!!

I've been waxing poetic about Launders and this prop since I first saw it- Esports is one of our best options for meaningful proliferation (with an audience who, by definition, has the minimum tech literacy needed to get involved in Nouns) and Launders is an ideal choice for sharing Nouns with the CS2 community.
Can't wait for the LAN!!!!

As a marketer, sponsorships are a tough balance between aligning the ethos of the brand and what visibility/impact Nouns gets from paying to have that brand in a place/space that aligns with potential new Nouners. Trad orgs, tech teams and DAOs alike burn millions on sponsorships that do end up being "brand slapped on." This doesn't appear to be that, but it also feels like just a first step.
I'd like to see a deeper tie-in/collab w/ Nouns Esports, results from the event series, and a clearer picture of how proceeds from this event will be reinvested back into Nouns (e.g. through purchasing a Nouns for Launders, etc.).
looking forward to a long lasting & fruitful relationship with Launders , gg

I think this is a good thing to support. I love that nouns isn't footing the entire bill and there's skin in the game. It's in a space where nouns is making positive moves and impact. How do I get my hands on those wristbands/lanyards???

The Nouncil has spoken.
We discuss all Nouns proposals every week in our Discord https://discord.gg/fdjJpMeV6K. The calls are public and all are welcome!
You can find a link to previous call recordings in our Discord "links" channel.
Nouncil has decided in favor of this proposal, with 22 votes for, 10 against, and 10 abstentions. Many a Hell Yes for this prop, and the against votes seemingly didn’t have much to say. Vouched for by ppd and Sasquatch, this could be a huge win for the DAO. Thanks for playing Nouns.

peterpandam | *"launders is the perfect ambassador for nouns.
charismatic, large platform, builder, creative, familiar with crypto but still new enough to become enamored with Nouns.

sasquatch | "Huge vouch for Launders who has been genuinely engaged with nouns for quite a while supporting our CS team. Excited AF to have him further involved in our community!"
profwerder | "Looks like a great event and proliferation opportunity that connects well with other activations."
robotfishgirl | "Hell yes to launders"
cheffo | *"Gm Landers. Very cool idea. A proven subgroup finding Nouns and Nounish vibes useful to grow their group. The funding is prudent. Based on previous years numbers it is around $1 per person. That will likely go down as the views increase exponentially with the Nouns exposure. Essentially we are giving an affordable digital experience to a new group, with prizes, merch and follow on content.
59% prop supported. 41% Outside funding. 34% of prop budget of brand integration.
Oversized Checks are dope!!! Create viral op. Good timeline. Pre existing content channels. One step connection to full esports integration. Toronto is perfect for this. Overall this is a sleeper and super cool. Best of luck luck.

Generally supportive of ⌐◨-◨ x Esports integrations. A 1-off sponsoring isn’t it though. Would be more fun to think bigger and aim higher. What’s the big play here? Remains unknown. Opportunity to explore.
LAN parties are fun. Esports is killing it. Love seeing more and more of their contributors joining in on governance and even starting to join in at Lil's~

In esports, few games have built a lasting culture like Counter Strike. From 1.6 to CS2 players have consistently gathered in small basement lans to selling out arenas to cheer for their favorite teams.
Continuing to cement nouns in that culture while onboarding legends like Launders will only strengthen nounish culture and create more opportunities in the future
Ain't no LAN like a Counter Strike LAN ⌐◨-◨
PlayDNA is FOR. See below for our collective vote with reason (TheBower, JP, FabValle, joaoborges):
We are less in favor of sponsorships and more in favor of natively integrating Nouns with the projects we’re funding. We still feel there is an X factor missing to this Prop, and while we appreciate Launder's comments on actively having Nouns as a talking point, we would encourage something more subtle for an audience's first encounter with Nouns - more exposition of successful projects, rather than governance and DAO mechanics.
With all that being said, we still believe this is a big net positive Proposal for the DAO. It’s clear we are making big strides in the esports scene and proposals like this can become a pathway for onboarding even more builders. We love to see a big personality from the scene, like Launders, having a true interest in Nouns and we believe a smaller proposal like this is the perfect introduction to the DAO. Esports has become one of Nouns’ most impactful aspects, we need to keep the doors open, by funding proposals like this one.
While I agree that I am not to keen on 'slapping Noggles on socials & banners type of sponsorships' I know that this proposal is much more than that.... I've recently become more involved in the esports community because of Nouns esports & meeting a lot of people at irl events who know about Nouns through esports... I've also recently taken a few shifts 'in the trenches' on X seeing the comments come in on major announcement posts. One thing I find interesting is that Nouns esports is building it's army of 'true fans', people defending Nouns in comments and further helping proliferate our ethos.... this event just helps further Nouns Pill even more normies and better yet, it shows people the power of the DAO and that we're not just some P&D crypto scam. The event itself, content production & brand building I think is a great value for this.

please do what u can to make this feel like "more" than a sponsorship. i'm willing to bet that u can turn this into something great
If you're concerned that this might not seem sufficiently "Nounish" and purely a sponsorship, rest assured that I'll be actively involved on-site. I'll be utilizing my Canadian fan base, managing the Nouns booth, and creating content for all our social media channels. With my shift away from being the full-time coach of the CS2 team, I now have more time to interact with fans and undertake some exciting new content that I wasn't able to explore before!

I don't like sponsorships that much, we should seek to find more unique (and value oriented!) ways to proliferate nouns.
I'm sure this would be a fun event for the gamers but nouns already has a great reputation in esports and I don't think theres a huge need to keep investing in brand awareness, which is ultimately what the advertised value is for nouns as a community.

We have come to offer the opportunity for Nouns to become a title sponsor of Launders LAN 2, a new and rapidly growing Counter-Strike tournament series hosted in Toronto by CS2 commentator and content creator Launders and Shab, co-founders of In-game corp.
We are seeking a grant from Nouns of 39,125 USDC to power Launders LAN 2. We are Mohan "Launders" Govindasamy and Alex "Shab" Parsons. We have recently led a high-profile series of Counter-Strike LAN events and together with Nouns, are aiming to organize the biggest Canadian Local LAN in history.
Launders LAN 1 photos
A LAN (Local Area Network) tournament is an esports competition where teams ranging from amateur to professional come from around the world to compete for pride, exposure, and prize money in a high-pressure environment connected solely over ethernet for the purest experience. These "LANs" are widely considered breakthrough events for all future professional players and are the incubator for the greatest success stories in esports.
Amazingly, last month a top performer from Launders LAN 1 was already signed by premier North American organization, M80:
For Nouns, becoming a major part of a sold-out local esports event is a no-brainer. We found each other because we are both passionate fans of our new industries, are intimately entwined with our respective communities, and want everyone else to join in and learn more about the thing we love. Launders LAN 2 will be a billboard that represents both of our budding niche interests as one and will spread the word about Nouns DAO as a positive and powerful force in esports on the ground floor, where all of the most dedicated fans are.
With this grant, we will together make history in esports by offering the largest Canadian local LAN prize pool of all time while simultaneously running a majorly anticipated tournament that is expected to sell out instantly. Shab and Launders have fallen in love with organizing community events and are planning to create history in the gaming space over the next few years and would be more than proud to turn Nouns into a key partner moving forward.
We have already garnered a significant amount of coverage from news websites such as ESI, esports.gg, Dust2.us, HLTV, and Reddit, and that was without breaking any prize pool records and having an age restriction of 19+ (which will be lifted for LL2).
Here is a video of Launders speaking to the audience at Launders LAN, explaining his vision for these events.
"FLUFFY AIMERS", champions of Launders LAN 1 holding the hilariously oversized cheque
Prize Pool - 18,175 USDC
Brand integration - 13,500 USDC
Supporting Operational Expenses - 7,450 USDC
Notes for Transparency:
Launders LAN 2 expected cost: 66,375 USDC (Remaining costs will be covered by In-game corp. with ticket sales, booth sales, and additional sponsorships) Dates: November 30th - December 1st, 2024
We are looking forward to building a strong future with you in Counter-Strike, and beyond. ⌐◨-◨
