32x32px is a proposal to expand the art of Nouns beyond PFPs and turn them into digital fine art, showcasing their value as on-chain art.

We aim to shape and create a new point of view, adding a fresh perspective to how people perceive and feel about Nouns.

Our goal is to expand the current meaning of the collection from PFP to digital fine art.

Expanding the frame

By designing this new perspective and meaning for the collection, we can expand how the project is understood and perceived among current DAO members, Nouns followers, and potential new audiences.

  • Enhance the recognition and meaning of the Nouns brand.
  • Add value to NFTs by evolving from PFPs to digital fine art.
  • Attract a new type of collector and reach a new audience interested in culture and art.
  • Position the Nouns collection as an artistic expression and an icon of on-chain art, elevating the project as a whole.
  • Inspire new generations of artists in digital and on-chain art.
  • Encourage collaborative projects and partnerships within the art and cultural sectors.
  • Increase the visibility and prestige of the project.

From PFP to digital fine art.

So far, the natural place for the Nouns has been our PFPs. But what if we could take them to museums, galleries, art schools, and universities, where they can inspire and reach more people?

To make this happen, first, we must establish a framework for understanding, provide meaning, and present the project from an artistic point of view. Defining, scaling, and cataloging the art within the collection and the artists involved is essential.

What we propose in this action is just the beginning. The first step is to initiate meaningful discussions with individuals and organisations that can help us position the collection's art as a digital fine art collection.

This proposal doesn't seek to sell books or generate unique visits to another Nouns website. We don't want to focus on the product; we want to focus on the meaning.

We aim to design and develop the tools that enable us and anyone in the community to promote this idea, this new perspective from their homes, local art galleries, museums, art schools, universities, or through sharing on social media.

Deliverables

Our plan is to create a book, a website, and a video to introduce Noun's art as digital fine art. These pieces will serve as the manifesto for a new perspective on the project, adding fresh meaning to how people perceive and feel about Nouns.

Website:

We will create an accessible site to proliferate the art of the project, aiming to promote Nouns as part of contemporary culture and digital art. This platform will bring Nouns closer to all fans of pixel and digital art. It will be an open space to inspire and showcase to the community, artists, art promoters and curators the Nouns collection as an artistic expression. The website will feature the same content as the book, but it will be adapted to a digital format for convenience and accessibility.

Book:

We are planning to produce a 200-page aprox. hardcover book. This first limited edition will consist of 200 units and will be a collector's item. We aim to create a piece that everyone would want in their home libraries. The book will serve as a milestone, a documentary, and a commemorative element that celebrates the history and trajectory of a unique project.

Through the book, we aim to have a significant impact on those who hold it. It will be a highly visual book that conveys the essence of the project's art beyond the screen and into the real world, allowing us to challenge preconceived notions and present a new perspective for the project.

Book distribution:

We don't have a global distribution strategy or a powerful marketing plan with lead conversion funnels to enter the publishing market.

What we do have is a vision and an idea, and we are searching for ways to make it tangible and real, much like the art of the Nouns.

For this first edition of 200 copies:

  • ≈30% (60) Donate to art schools and universities.
  • ≈20% (40) For sending to museums and galleries to negotiate possible irl exhibitions.
  • ≈10% (20) Reserve for attracting potential publishers for a larger print run in a second edition. If the book is commercialised at some point, we will do a 50/50 revenue share for the DAO
  • ≈40% (80) Distribute among the nouners. Unrequested books will be sold on the website.

Video:

The video will be distributed through social media and the website to provide a new perspective on the art collection and establish an emotional connection with our audience. Our objective is to tell the story in a way that resonates with the audience and expand the current understanding of the collection.

Content

Content will be adapted to be consumed in the best possible way in physical and digital formats, static and in motion, which requires a specific design of the user experience unique to each format.

If we take the example of an art book, specifically a monograph, it typically focuses exclusively on the work of a single artist, can feature previously unpublished drawings as finished works. A catalog compiles and documents finalised pieces as an archive. Meanwhile, an "art of..." book (like Art of Finding Nemo, a video game book, etc.), showcases the creative process with sketches and studies. Some books are considered collector's items due to their high-quality content and production. We aim to strike a balance between all of these concepts.
