I’m not a fan of the proposals’ architecture and frequented funding size. however voting FOR since the prop won’t pass and I want to signal a vote of confidence in pipe.
I hope that you bring a new prop forward for you to just do you and push beyond - all the weird, cool, creative stuff. All of it. And include a dev misc to build stuff. Almost like a mschf-esque ⌐◨-◨ explorer client, but original and pipe-fied
i like way you did the hyperlinks for "many existing community members"
we need a hub to explore nouns art and I think probe will hit all the right notes. in it's current state it's already the site I use the most after camp in the nouns eco. we've make big bets on other nouns aligned teams and I feel comfortable that pipe & co will deliver something epic
I like the team, and probe.wtf by itself is very nounish. That being said, the ask feels a little high & the proposal a little all over the place.
Would love to fund the team.
I'd be inclined in favor of specific, smaller proposals (bigger focus on what exactly is being built/specific deliverables) or counterintuitively, a broader grant to the team as developer-artists-in-residence (bigger focus on aesthetics & vision). This current proposal feels like something in between.
Should this not pass, I hope to see a new proposal by the same team soon!

+for I was against with my own vote but open to being a for here since I'm on the fence. I think the ask is quite large but I love funding builders — @frog
+against as a Product Designer myself, i'd like to see prototypes of the client you have in mind, as well as iterations based on the research results. more certainty that what you propose makes sense for users. on the other hand, it seems more like a tool for LilNouns, and Nouns is the bonus — @0xmonografia

+for pipe is long term aligned and bringing new devs into the fold. Probe is an opportunity to interact with Nouns in a totally unique way, genuine utility for the art enjoyers. i don’t buy 40’s argument that it’s too niche; camp was funded $500k for a full time team with <30 users, what’s the difference here? — @wylin

i've seen a lot of deep nouns fans esp the artists (like goldy) rave about probe.wtf on farcaster so it's definitely doing some right and i'm supportive of the project in general.
i do think this is an in the weeds niche community product though. it's beloved by a few dozen of the hardcore fans and that's great. but i don't know if we really need to necessarily take it to a 3 full time ppl working on it type of project (from the one person part time passion project) b/c i just don't know if it really works as a mass appeal type of product or even if that's desirable.
i'd definitely be supportive of funding pipe more to continue to build on the product to serve the fans and users that it already has but don't have conviction that this big expansion of team and scope is supported by the user numbers we're seeing.
I like probe. Used to to create the 1000 nouns look back; https://www.lint.wtf/first-1000-nouns ... I warned pipe that it might be too high, but honestly.. based on other asks/products being built for similar or higher costs seems in like with what other devs in nouns would charge.. no? Feels kinda like i'm reading a bunch of double standards in the vote reasons.. but maybe thats bc there is more trust for other pre-existing devs over this team... not sure? Hope to see the prop tightened up, more focused and brought back if this version doesn't pass.

lunari: The story from garden round to proposal is great, and there are some cool features to work with here. (I like the idea of having 2-trait combos being the minimum for the reserve contract, as to not rug the Noun O'Clock show, etc). I also like sorting/searching the Nouns in other ways besides traits. Voting yes, but I wish we could see concept designs within the prop. +1 to the comments attached
jesscas: I am voting against, it looks like it has promise, but more needs to be made clear in the prop
A bit more explanation about the reserving and how that works would be really useful, as well as maybe some mockups of how everything would look would make this prop much more exciting
+1 ccarella
tori: I vote against, I think the premise of a random noun everyday is the best part. Would love to see this tested with the nouns of the day that aren't the selected ones, and could use the extras to test the program to see how could work.
On the one hand I can appreciate props that aim to make more sources for people to engage with nouns, on the other hand, I think if we have an insufficient level of brand awareness amongst non-nouners, I don't know how that is solved by another nounish trait explorer. At the risk of voting haphazardously on these types of props, I'll abstain here and come up with my own principles on how I will evaluate props like these in the future.
It's hard to vote on such a large ask in isolation. We have many alternative governance clients and few alternative auction clients. If we fund $300K for Probe, what are we not funding?
It's hard to say, which is why I view these asks as better fits for mandated rounds (similar to the Farcaster client round). We should solicit a broad range of ideas, including people who are new to Nouns and may need some encouragement to take the leap.
I think that this is especially valuable when auction mechanics aren't exactly a main focus of Nouns effort. We have one Noun a day, sure, but what kind of different auction styles would inspire people, and where would the results lead?
I'm not in favor of this prop in isolation, though I would consider it if I could compare it against other options in a mandated round.
Also some small trepidation that others have commented on: The deliverables feels quite focused on auctions, but the exploratory features are quite different. I'd love to see you go all-in on auctions and see what could emerge -- right now this feels split between auction houses and other features, when I feel like Nouns governance clients have shown that single-purpose clients tend to work better.
I was very torn on this proposal. On one hand, from a pure value perspective, this feels much too pricey for what's being built. On the other hand, I believe Nouns needs more high quality builders and the team seems very solid. At this price point, I net out to a no, but I'd be really excited about seeing a smaller proposal that could serve as a stepping stone to showing impact and earning more.

I’d vote for on a reduced and more focused scope. Good luck and thanks for proposing.
I like the idea and I think it has potential, but my views pretty much align with Seneca here.
This looks like too much money to provide all up front, I'd rather see some smaller milestones and fund as we go along.

Thank you for taking the time to propose.
I’d vote for on a reduced and more focused scope. Good luck and thanks for proposing.
I'm not really sure what this prop is proposing to do. What is a "Reserve your dream Noun tool?" I can imagine how the Auction House works but some more description around it any maybe even wires would be helpful to make sure we all mean the same thing. I think there could be something interesting here but I don't think this proposal gives me enough to vote on and feel good about funding a $300K project.
I am a for on this for reasons other than price. Price has always been an area I just don’t get. Especially dev.
BUT what this has done. Created a useful and interactive working probe. By two devs who WERE NOT IN THE ECOSYSTEM.
We pay a lot to onboard devs. See all the various 100k prop house rounds. Here are two who are on the fringe. Have been working with ⌐◨-◨ contracts. And have the want to continue to grow probe. And who knows what else.
More devs in ⌐◨-◨ contracts diversify and lighten the verbs load.
Client incentives I understand are More maintenance? Or can one fund development?
Either way. I hear the chorus. Don’t disagree, but think. What about the intangibles. (I’m pro borg as a nounish crypto degen mfer) and appreciate his constant search for the absurd.
I have a feeling his mates are the yin to his Yang.
Disclaimer: I'm working on a proposal for funding a competing auction client.
I think all auction client proposals should aim to create the #1 and let the market decide. The client incentives should help fund the continuous support work long term, but initial implementation indeed requires quite a lift.
As the DAO, we should give several clients a fighting chance. Can't just look at the visitor graph and dismiss proposals based on low usage, otherwise it's a chicken and egg problem.
I agree with previous comments that this proposal needs a bit of focus and clarity on how this becomes the best auction client out there.
Out of all of the custom clients we have, most of them seem to be focused on voting. (camp, agora, HON). For this reason, I do think there is going to be a need for a client specifically focused on auction mechanics. I also do think there is enough specific to the auction that a full client could be created around it. I love the idea of reserving traits. I think there are other "power user" features that could also be included.
I'd love for probe to be the #1 auction client in nouns. At the moment I think the deliverables are a bit too chaotic (gamification, 3d view, natural language search feel like they are going a different direction)
I'd be an easy yes if this prop came back with a bit of a lower ask to focus specifically on being the #1 auction client with auction specific feature set.
"We want to become a key touchpoint for Nouns DAO, serving artists and enjoyers at the same time. "
This a little abstract for me. For a budget of this size, I'd like to see some concrete use-case that Noun holders will benefit from, and personally I can't see this add in any value.
The deliverables are neat but not worth the investment IMO, as 3D Noun View, Natural Language Search, etc is not something people are realistically going to use on a daily basis.
Also not a huge fan of Laravel, C#, .NET as a backend stack. Maybe something more modern like Rust or Go?
I think I'd be more open to this if you made a demo first and demonstrated something cool that would have lasting value. Does not need to be super polished.
I'd really hope this was more focused on getting revenue from the client incentives initiative we created and in which you will be part of. If people are using you, you should be able to get some funds to sustain the project. I understand it won't be enough, so I'm fine funding the project, this however seems a bit too much. Specially when I'm not a huge fan of some of the deliverables.
I like probe and i like the new path pip has staked out for the project but this ask is too steep for me given:
Imo a good path forward would be to implement the auction contracts (not a huge lift), get users on that bare bones feature set, then come back to the dao for bigger and more ambitious funding ask to build out features such as the secondary market ideas.

Hi appreciate the feedback, in the redesign I'm working on there is no ET finger or Mario :( - people did seem to like the cursor though.
This has been costed for the 3 of us to work 6 months full time on probe, delivering the listed items whilst going as deep as possible into Nouns art and code. The site is being redesigned and new features added agile, so expecting things to break and require iteration. Definitely want to do this with community and build in feature requests & have been already, but there is a long list of requested stuff aside from the deliverables here and with full time commitment we obviously can make things happen much faster.
The maintenance estimate is a few days a month which we would offer to anyone we build/maintain software for, keeping everything updated + code review. Changed the 2.5e to 5e as introduced secondary auction contract, apologies missed that edit at the start.
I hear people on whether is worth the spend, imo the value add of making sure the infrastructure is built well far outweighs this cost, people are enjoying using the site already and I am sure we can make it 100x better via this proposal.
Love probe.wtf and this proposal. Price feels a little high, but I think the final product and the team is worthy. I’d love to see it continued/working regardless of future funding for at least a few years.
Requesting $288k USDC + 2.5e to advance to the next level of probe.wtf - incorporating an auction house and a 'Reserve your dream Noun' tool, whilst improving the gallery to showcase the beauty of Nouns & Lil Nouns. We want to become a key touchpoint for Nouns DAO, serving artists and enjoyers at the same time.
I'm working 1 day a week on design research with Lil Nouns and this project began in prop house as ‘Lil Explorer’. Probe then expanded over the past 3 months (working part-time) thanks to Nouns Gardener Round 5. Since the Garden round, we have had 1500+ visits from 40+ countries, with many existing community members finding Probe useful for whatever Noun-related tasks they may be undertaking (or simply enjoying). We now have the framework to expand the functionality as detailed below:
Deliverables
We estimate all the deliverables to be complete within 6 months from initiation of the proposal. We will document updates and progress via monthly prop dates and bring forward any new ideas / plans / pivots that may arise. Within this proposed budget we will maintain all infrastructure for 12 months (after 12 months, the estimated maintenance would be ~$2k p/m but we hope the DAO will want us to continue building new features beyond these initial deliverables - see below).
The ultimate goal of this project is to be a go-to source for people interested in getting involved in Nouns (artist, developer, buyer, spectator etc.) and for people within Nouns already. With the client incentive rewards on the horizon, we believe there are endless opportunities to add value for our core community of artists and the wider ecosystem.
We are a team of 3 (designer, front end, back end / solidity) and have been working together for about a decade building web products and protocols like this and this. Hopefully you have appreciated our work thus far and we look forward to getting the chance to take this project 100x ↑.
Team (mshrm) pipe - designer (UX, UI, Graphics, Sprint Planning) tom - developer (Laravel, Vue, React) matt - developer (Solidity, C#, .NET)
Beyond the initial deliverables we are exploring the following features:
P.S. We are still considering other names/domains such as noun.wtf
Thank you ⌐◨-◨
