Fund Retroactive Rounds via Rounds.wtf
tldr: Allocate 250 ETH towards retroactive rounds via rounds.wtf.
Context: Prop 506 passed on Feb 26, 2024 where the Prop House team received 50 ETH to deploy via Rounds.wtf. We proposed “exploring a new UX via Farcaster for Nouns to allocate funds through.”
What's happened since then:
Some of the experiments we ran since the last prop to get us where we are today:
- Reply to cast as a way to submit
- Tagging the @roundsbot to submit
- All casts filtered by eligible users’ likes as submissions (ding ding ding)
- Reply to submission and stand alone casts as notifications
- Dedicated channels for running rounds
- Media / mint / tags only rounds
- Deployed v1 & v2 of our claims contracts
Nouns rounds results:
- 3k+ submissions with rewards
- 1k+ unique users
- 27 rounds executed
Allocations were as follows:
- /nouns: 11 rounds, 32 ETH
- /nouns-animators: 7 rounds, 14 ETH
- /nouns-propdates: 5 rounds, 2.4 ETH
- /nouns-draws: 4 rounds, 5 ETH
The best way to get a real sense of the results is to visit each channel individually via rounds.wtf.
Ask:
250 ETH, 100% will be used towards funding Nouns contributors.

I wish we had more clarity in this proposal on what types of rounds will be funded and over what time cadence. very supportive of rounds & the team behind the project
strong +1 - on the base team, we've found rounds to be the highest efficiency grant program we've ever run. the social network does the hard work! think this will be great.
rounds was a absolute breakthrough in UX. way more people are making submissions. way more "votes" are being made b/c ppl don't have to go to a separate app and connect/sign from wallet. it's just likes. it's kind of an obvious in retrospect moment but ofc when we started PH farcaster didn't exist. super supportive of leaning further in this direction.
One of the biggest challenges Nouns currently faces is giving people clear and compelling ways to get involved. While the standard answer is "Join the community and participate," this can feel vague and unclear. New members are left to navigate a fragmented landscape of websites, articles, videos, and community spaces without a central hub, making for a somewhat disjointed experience.
Currently, onboarding relies heavily on existing community members personally guiding newcomers. While this high-touch approach has its merits, it simply doesn't scale. We need more accessible entry points that empower people to dive in and add value from day one.
This is where Rounds shines. By leveraging Farcaster, it radically lowers the barrier to entry and activation, tapping into social media dynamics and transforming participation into a positive-sum game.
The more people post and engage, the more rewards flow, creating a virtuous cycle of growth. Furthermore, Rounds enables us to efficiently allocate treasury funds to a much wider range of contributors. This is a powerful unlock in a world where attention is scarce and we need to focus our energy on the highest-leverage activities.
The initial Rounds for propdates (rewarding those keeping the community updated on their progress) and animation and drawing (a great space to onboard creatives and artists) were excellent, and I look forward to seeing how the Rounds team continues forward.
We have a unique window of opportunity to build a robust, scalable onboarding machine on Farcaster.
Community-building is like riding a Segway… Just lean hard in the direction you want to go.

+for necessary to help evaluate impact of rounds — @frog
+against beyond my belief that Nouns has not gotten a good price to value ratio on Prop House and Rounds, the mechanism as is mostly serves to reward people who are already being rewarded. imo crypto is about new incentive structures to reward the many not recreating old ones that reward the few — @wylin
+for solid progress. let's keep funding builders through Rounds — @0xmonografia
+against - currently with the way the algo is set up the same people with large audiences are the ones that receive the majority of the funding, I also think the funding that was set aside for Prop House should be used towards Rounds as the infra of Rounds is not as extensive as Prop House. — @bixbite
+abstain I'm actually a prop.house supporter and because it really is a mini onchain prop. Very different market with rounds. Very hopeful for prop.house to continue and rounds will also exist. — @0xishal
+for since it is a fertile land for ⌐◨-◨ builders to get funding and feedback in real time of ideas💡 — @fattybuthappy
+for rounds has been the best mechanism to date for onboarding nounish contributors. Double-down on what works. — @!212992
It's so cool what I've seen coming out of the current rounds. Have had so much fun with it.
Let's take this to another level!

While this is a very substantial amount of ETH, Rounds is a great distribution option for funding. I'm a strong supporter of it.
I do wish that the ask were a streaming payment -- while I trust the Rounds team a lot on how they'll use the funds, I don't want to set a precedent of large upfront asks for grant pools for teams that may not have built up the trust that Rounds has. Less so because Rounds should stream, more so to set the tone that everyone uses streams.

lunari: no-brainer pass! Rounds have showed us the power of Web3, and is a great way to give rewards for contributions.
jesscas: For - yes! I think rounds are a super awesome way to get engagement and reward the community for contributing meaningfully. Rounds were one of the first ways I ever received any money through a wallet, and got me to learn how to make a wallet, and more about web3 in general. I think rounds will be a crucial part in onboarding web2, and also us at nounsfe are planning to leverage rounds ourselves too to get our community on as well 😄

Nouncil has decided in favor of funding retroactive rounds via Rounds.wtf, with 18 votes supporting the initiative. Supporters are enthusiastic about the growth and success of Rounds.wtf, highlighting its potential to benefit the community. However, there were notable concerns about the allocation and use of previously allocated funds, with some members seeking a detailed breakdown of Prop House expenditures before committing additional resources. Despite these concerns, the majority believe that continuing to fund these rounds will drive further growth and engagement within the Nouns community.

Rounds have been fun.. issue i'm seeing is posts die down when rounds aren't running (at least feels like that).. people almost expect eth to post/produce for nouns now ... maybe thats not a bad thing- I dunno.. Something to think about and consider tho. Regardless, feels like a good way to incentivize building, updates, constant engagement, and drive new people in to create with nouns ⌐◨-◨
Rounds is decent. Siloing into farcaster and gated channels might be the right move. It does focus on crypto natives only. Kinda…
Gun to head. Yes.
Thinking hard. Well. Just not sure this is polished for another 250 to be gifted away.
Both props are linked. The team is constantly changing and adjusting params on distribution.
I have enjoyed rounds as a beneficiary of some of the previous rounds of funding. But if I had to ask myself -- do I genuinely think receiving the rewards I received was +EV for the DAO, I'm not sure I'd say yes. For the /nouns channel in particular, most of the rewards seem to go to those who already have a large audience within nouns. I'm not sure this is a good thing.
That said, rounds is one of the stickier products we have in the ecosystem, and there's no doubt it's been successful as a product. I have faith that the team has nouns best interest at heart and will come up with new mechanics that help align rounds with outcomes that are more +EV for our DAO.
I think rounds have had a positive impact so far and I support more investment.
makes sense to increase MWB/grants when there's add'l dev resources.
also, as a side-note: generally interesting to see the mechanic of the grants functioning as MWB and part of the product.
