Onboard and support hackers in building noun-based projects and public goods by establishing Nouns as a design system and code reference. To achieve this, we will continue hosting The Nouns Fair and Nouns Prize, and introduce support and follow-up rounds at five ETHGlobal hackathons in 2024. We are requesting 185 ETH + 75,000 USDC to make this a reality.
In 2023, we embarked on a mission to bring Nouns to hackers worldwide. We took the Nouns Fair to 6 ETHGlobal hackatons and exposed Nouns to 6,800 hackers in 6 countries.
We introduced the Nouns Prize at those hackathons, and received 291 projects, representing 17% of the total submissions amongst 87 DAOs, protocols, and companies like the Ethereum Foundation, Uniswap Foundation, MakerDAO, ENS, Optimism, Arbitrum, Base, Polygon, Scroll, EAS, Aragon, The Graph, Lens, Safe, MetaMask, Wallet Connect, and many more.
Of the 291 projects, 30 won the Nouns Prize. On average, 2 out of 10 hackathon winner projects were built with Nouns. Since then, we have seen interest in keeping building with Nouns resulting in a successful onchain proposal 459 βοΈ and a Gardener Round winner βοΈ.
This is what The Nouns Fair looks like in numbers.

We want to keep onboarding international hackers and help others create on top of Nouns. To do so, we plan to go to the remaining five IRL ETHGlobal hackathons in 2024.
We know that making people's first experience with Nouns fun and meaningful makes the perfect environment to be receptive about wtf is Nouns, how the DAO works, and how people can collaborate.
This year we'll focus on not only making hackers build with Nouns, but also engage with the community after the event. This will be done by continuing with the Nouns Prize, but also adding in retargeting and onboarding effects after the event is over.
The Nouns Fair is a fun experience focused on hackers, where they can engage, learn, and build with Nouns. These activations are localized nounish experiences with photo opportunities, games, swag, and learning material about all things Nouns in every hackathon. The Nouns fair is the weirdest onboarding mechanism showing a small bit of the thousand shapes Nouns can take.
The Nouns fair makes people immediately connect with Nouns by looking at the characters or the booth's design or by simply listening to or seeing the wide range of projects Nouns has funded. The next five editions of the Nouns Fair will have the same dedication and vibe that makes it a fun and memorable experience while keeping Nouns weird.
The 5,000 USDC Nouns Prize will be available in each hackathon along with the Nouns Fair and is aimed to reward hackers building on Nouns during an entire weekend. By doing this at every hackathon, we create a dedicated building window for hundreds of skilled hackers, familiarize them with the Nouns' culture, and incentivize and reward their efforts.
People feel encouraged to work on Nouns when they realize the endless possibilities. The Nouns Prize has given rise to some great projects, including a Prop House winner and a successful on-chain proposal that went entirely Nouns.
Since 2017, ETHGlobal has been a significant contributor to the Ethereum ecosystem by providing a platform for thousands of hackers to showcase their skills and foster interest. To further support ongoing innovation and development within Ethereum βincluding Nouns through the Nouns Fair and Nouns Prize at ETHGlobal hackathonsβ we aim to officially partner with ETHGlobal for the next five hackathons in 2024.
In addition to hosting the Nouns Fair and Nouns Prize, we want to help builders continue their path towards building with Nouns. To do this we will implement the following initiatives:
We are requesting a total of 185 ETH + 75,000 USDC to make this a reality. Here's how we plan to utilize the funds and deliverables over the next 9 months to onboard and support hackers worldwide, both IRL and online.
Nouns Fair, 115 ETH
Nouns Prize, 25,000 USDC*
ETHGlobal Partnership, 50,000 USDC*
Follow-Up Nouns Prize Rounds, 25 ETH
Continuing The Builder Path, 45 ETH
*Nouns Prize and ETHGlobal partnership funds go directly to ETHGlobal.

A brief selection from the 30 Nouns Prize winner projects in 6 hackathons.
Will start by saying, love this team and their execution from 2023 season was really great to see.
Generally supportive but voting against this specific round because :
Less clarity on the big jump in budgeting (3x) for what seems to be similar scope to Prop 257.
Follow-up nouns Prize Rounds + Continue the builder path seems unnecessary (assuming these are similar to the farcaster style rounds). This seems like an afterthought add-on that doesn't go together with Nouns Fair which originally has always been an IRL activation. Basically the prop is trying to do too many different things in a single swoop which reduces its appeal.
These might be better off as separate proposal vs lump sum tag on this one.
I feel similarly to supriyo.
First off i also have to start by saying that I love Nouns Fair and been a huge fan of your aesthetic and execution since the first proposal. So it pains me to vote against this.
But that said i think there are a couple items here worth pushing back on:
The Builders Path + Prize Rounds feels out of place. In my mind the Nouns Fair is an IRL activation (its where Mono and Lex have proven themselves, as evident by the 2023 recap section of this prop), and I struggle to make sense of the 70 eth online component.
(Its possible that the Continuing the Builders Path idea is a great initiative, but i think it would be apt to propose it as a separate prop, and significantly lower the ask for a first trial.)
Secondly, im not generally a stickler for budget breakdowns, especially when it comes to proven teams, but since organizing the Nouns Fair has gone from 28k, to 38k, to ~78k usd per event i think its prudent to spend some time explaining the cost increase. (Relatedly, im totally fine if you want to comp yourself better given your track record and assuming you didnt get much pay for the first trial prop. But please make it explicit.)
Needless to say i really hope you come back with a revised proposal that i can wholeheartedly support.
I was going to vote later in the round, but think this is a great opportunity to address some questions....in regards to continuing the builders path... this is meant to be a complete onboarding funnel to guide builders from irl hackathon to onchain proposal. Previously the Nouns Fair is the irl activation at ETH Global events with hackers competing for the Nouns Prize... but what happens after the irl event? Whats the path for any of those 50+ submissions of awesome ideas ever become a potential onchain proposal? How do you maintain stickiness with those 100+ Devs who just compete for your bounty? .... we did a test run of this funnel at ETH Global London with a Lil Nouns follow up round (because of timing it was quicker to get a Lils prop passed for 5eth than submit to Nouns) Here are the stats: from the irl event we onboard 92 developers into the Nouns Coding Club discord server (which was used as tech support for hackers during the hackathon) ... we then held a follow up round (online hackathon) to see what engagement we could have from those developers. We had 16 submissions & I mentored 7 hackers providing insight & feedback on their projects. The engagement from this online hackathon grew a brand new channel /lilnounsdao from 0 to 5800 followers in 3 weeks & one submission alone has been used over 12k times in the last 3 days. The hackathon was held using UpLink for submissions (so using Nouns funded infrastructure).... The intention for the Nouns follow up rounds is not to compete with Rounds.wtf, its an opportunity for hackers to participate in an online hackathon where they can continue to work on their submissions from the previous ETH Global events, since they only have 36hrs during the hackathon. So while the submissions are well thought out ideas, there is simply not enough time to execute and fully deploy working MVPs.
In regards to budget, there is a very detailed breakdown of costs for the Nouns Fair, Mono & Lex can share that spreadsheet. Regarding Continuing The Builder Path...
I hope this helps to provide some clarity. If there are still any questions please feel free to reach out to me on Warpcast: Bixbite or Discord: iambixbite
