Where
2024 Route Swan Hill Victoria - Airlie Beach Queensland Australia
16 - 24 August 2024
The 2024 Variety Bash takes participants across the country in a colourful convoy from Swan Hill to Airlie Beach. This year's Bash is "Red Dirt to Reef", driving red dirt outback roads and taking in some of Australia's stunning coastline. Taking in Australia’s vast scenery, the 2024 route will provide iconic backdrops for content creation and proliferation of the Nouns brand.
Participant Profile
The Variety Bash, a hallmark event in Australia's philanthropic landscape, embodies a unique ethos that transcends social and economic boundaries, bringing together participants from diverse backgrounds on a singular journey of goodwill.
Inspired by founder Dick Smith's original vision of "a drive in the outback with a few mates”, where his friends from all walks of life could be on a level playing field, the Variety Bash has evolved into a melting pot of Australian society, from blue-collar workers to high-end business professionals, all united by a common goal of supporting children in need.
Each participant fundraises throughout the year to take part with a staggering $200M+ AUD raised since it's inception in 1985.
This eclectic mix of participants is a testament to the event's inclusive spirit and the power of community to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate.
The introduction of Nouns DAO to Bash participants represents a new chapter in this legacy, blending the event's traditional camaraderie with the innovative, decentralised ethos of the Nouns community.
It's an opportunity to bridge the gap between the tangible, immediate impact of the Bash and the forward-thinking, collaborative approach of Nouns DAO. This partnership highlights a common goal: to leverage collective action for societal benefit, without expectation of return, resonating deeply with the values at the heart of the Variety Bash.
Economic Impact
Local Support: Estimation of $63,000 per night spent in local economies on fuel, accommodation, and food, with a detailed study to assess the full economic benefit.
Grants Distribution: $66,000 in value through grants distributed directly on the road and throughout the year at sister motoring events, with a focus on underprivileged kids.
Addressing Significant Need
The 2021 Australian Census, as interpreted through the Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas (SEIFA), highlights the pronounced economic disadvantage faced by children in remote parts of Australia. This disadvantage is manifest in several dimensions, including access to education, employment opportunities for their families, and overall living conditions. The indices used in SEIFA, such as the Index of Economic Resources (IER), show a clear disparity in economic access and resources between urban centres and remote areas. The impact of this disadvantage on children is profound, affecting their educational outcomes, health, and future opportunities.
Given these challenges, there is a compelling need for additional support from charities such as Variety - the Children’s Charity. Variety focuses on providing assistance to children who are sick, disadvantaged, or have special needs, aiming to fill the gaps in services and support that government and other institutions cannot cover. The charity's efforts in offering educational resources, health support, and personal development opportunities are vital for children in economically disadvantaged regions. By targeting aid to these areas, Variety helps to mitigate the impact of economic disadvantage and fosters a more equitable environment for all children to thrive. This support is crucial in enabling schools and communities to offer a level of education and care that all Australian children deserve, regardless of their geographic location or economic background.
