i'm always a bit wary of money from wealthier individuals / countries dropping into a culture it doesn't deeply understand and creating externalities but i'm very heartened by the fact that in this case this is the school that davin (the proposer) went to. trust that davin will do both the local community and nouns justice managing the project in a way that creates something long term positive and meaningful for the community (and not too tacky shoving the nouns brand down ppl) while having a positive attention and provenance generating relationship with nouns as well.
i'm also always a bit wary of physical infra projects since while it might be doing good for the public (doesn't charge for access) it can can have physical barriers that limit access (hard to reach or limited capacity). that's why my baseline preference is for digital public goods (for example open source software, but art is even better at times b/c it doesn't even have maintenance costs).
but in this case the ROI seems high (a relatively small budget can rebuild a school and change the educational lives for hundreds of kids for years to come) and the narrative story is also strong (davin who has been an avid nouns and gnars fan for years goes back to home town to give back leveraging nouns) that i feel compelled to vote yes.

This is a huge deal as some have already mentioned. It signals that "funny internet money" does good in the world. It not only has direct impact on those who benefit from it locally for years to come, but can serve as an inspiration for many other organisations, collectives, DAOs, and anyone with similar missions of doing good things.
This also has immense publicity potential, gaining quality attention as I think the message is strong - a group of people used money form NFTs to build a school.
The fact that this sort of thing is even possible is amazing and I hope it illustrates the power of what we all love here to other people as they learn more about our world.

This is not about funding a school. This is about setting a tone for what crypto should fund. Physical gathering places that put forward Nounish ideals are important worldwide - setting the tone that Nouns will fund both a coffee shop in LA and a school in Uganda shows that it’s not insiders giving money to insiders, but a clear expression of the value of gathering places. I support proposals for gathering places like these wholeheartedly.

These days, I believe that Nouns is not meant to fund everyone and everything but to support cases of public good that could encourage more web3 enthusiasts to give back to the public and change the perception of web3 in the general public.
Recently, I have come to the conclusion that the mission of Nouns is to demonstrate to the web3 community that giving back and funding public goods is a responsibility and simply the right thing to do.
Funding a school in Uganda is one such case; perhaps Nouns will be able to fund only one school, however there is hope that more crypto companies will follow the movement and fund more schools around the world.
I agreed to be on the multi-sig and offer advice because I believe this proposal is a good example of public good.

Having gotten to know Davin the last few months I'm extremely bullish on his ability execute, his passion for this project and his follow through. I also know that he is working on plans to make the opening a big deal with global media and social media attention. This project has a lot of proliferation potential as it fits perfectly into a narrative that mainstream media likes to tell. This is the kind of proposal where Nouners and the Nouns Community can really amplify its proliferation impact by telling the story to everyone they know.
This is an amazing prop from a dedicated nounish builder. The impact from this prop has potential beyond just this project.
Looking at this from a US perspective, the ask seems small but I trust the team has researched the costs and that this will be sustainable by the community.

We are seeking 228,000 USDC to transform Ndurumo Primary School in Kiyanga, Uganda into a modern Nounish School. The project will include - 4 classrooms, 1 community water source, administration & teachers staff room, teacher's quarters, a playground, kitchen, as well as modern plumbing for students and staff Toilets and Bathrooms. The project will utilize the use of green technologies such as Solar Energy and Biogas to provide water and renewable energy for school activities and the surrounding community i.e. Kids and others in the community will be able to bring water home from the school.
As is the case in many low income countries, Uganda suffers from substantial school infrastructure gaps that need to be addressed. Growing up in rural Uganda, one of the hardest things to attain is a basic formal education, to have basic skills in arithmetic and literature to enable a child take on the world as it is today. This is because African governments are generally strained and end up neglecting basic education infrastructure, which overtime starts to breakdown and affects the quality of education a child should get.
Ndurumo Primary School is Located in the western arm of the East African Rift Valley, In a newly created District of Mitooma, Adjacent to Queen Elizabeth National park and Kigezi Game reserve In South Western Uganda.

This school is a public, government aided school that takes children from the surrounding community and districts. The local communities and alumni are part of the school management alongside the current school administration and PTA.
I am lucky to be an Alumni of this school where I completed my first level of Primary education which grants me access to transform the school.
Back then, the buildings were a little new and we had alot of fun.
The school currently serves 500 children from 4 districts in western Uganda. Due to the lack of infrastructuaral development, it has been a challenge to impact more children in this area.
Nouns DAO Africa, through local partners, plans to collaborate with local contractors and Ugandan architects to re-design and nounify all the structures in the school. We will be starting with the school signpost. We will Nounify all of the classrooms and play areas, in addition to the administrative blocks. We will build up new and modern toilets + bathrooms, kitchen and possibly a dining and assembly area.
Project is expected to be completed within 6-10 months after inagural school commissioning
NB: Nouns DAO Africa will create a Documentary film of the whole process of building the first Nouns School in Africa - which shall be submitted to Nouns DAO as a Droposal to Fund further activities such as these in EMEA (Europe/Middle East/Africa) regions.

I am soon receiving a Shipment of 1000+ paper noggles and i feel like building something of this magnitude can be a chance to have the "Nouns and Crypto" conversation at the fore front of legislators, bankers and government officials in my local area network and showcase IRL uses of crypto in Uganda and Africa as a whole.
