TL;DR: Requesting 24 ETH for Aburra (formerly Alphacaster) to explore the frontier of Nouns x Farcaster and build a best-in-class web3 social app for the next 3 months. Payment via steaming.
Farcaster represents a unique opportunity to decentralize Nouns communication and bring Nounishness to more onchain organizations.
At Aburra, we have been building at the intersection of Nouns and Farcaster since early 2023 and have won Nouns Hack Week for our MVP v1 in April.
Today, Aburra has evolved significantly since its v1. In addition to being both a Nouns client and a Farcaster client, it allows anyone to host Farcaster spaces where listeners can directly vote for proposals.
Our ambition is not just to create the best Nouns client, but to make all DAOs more Nounish by helping them communicate on top of an open and permissionless protocol (i.e. Farcaster).
We also hope to use this prop to see what is possible when you combine two of the best web3 ecosystems - we want to push towards a future where open communication protocol is favored over Discord and Twitter.
Applications developed
Current traction
Aburra has become the default way for Farcaster users to consume proposals and votes. In the last 30 days, it had 3.9K unique visitors. It also has Warpcast integrations.
Since we started testing the new app in early Sep, we've hosted 9 Farcaster spaces for Nouns, Purple and Nouns Builder. 80 users have installed the app. More Nounish spaces are in the pipeline.
Aburra has 2 full-time team members, billzh.eth (@billzh on FC) and blingbling.eth (@16 on FC). Both of us are experienced developers and have built production-grade consumer applications.
So far we have received 12.9 ETH grants from Nouns Builder (9 ETH), Nouns Hack Week (3 ETH) and Warpcast (~0.9 ETH).
The ask is 24 ETH (0.2% of current treasury) to help us continue to build Aburra for the next 3 months. That is, 8 ETH per month for a team of two.
The team is lean and we are confident to deliver a top-tier application with significantly lower cost than comparable clients (House of Nouns at 95 ETH, Agora at 220 ETH and Prop Lot at 60 ETH).
Am supportive of thoughtful attempts at Nouns x Farcaster integrations. Alphacaster is a great product and I'm confident in the execution of this iteration
Share concerns about doubt of mass adoption but am okay with this level of funding.
I was torn by this one but decided to vote against. (+1 indexcard's thoughts re: moving away from abstaining)
I wanted to say "yes!" and let billzh and the team go back to building, exploring the Farcaster x Nouns space in fun new ways (which I still think is a great idea!)
However, the more I read the prop, what was built, and what is now planned, the more I lost some of that initial excitement.
In short, I don't think the current alphacaster product was that successful among nouns + the plan feels a bit scattered (nouns client, refactoring, native apps, spaces hosting, etc.)
I'd easily get behind a narrowed-down version OR later retro-fund a client with more nouns traction.
excited about all the nouns energy on farcaster, but I am having difficulty channeling that to this prop for some reason.
not even really against it, but trying to move away from abstain votes.
i'm voting against this proposal for two main reasons: i don't see myself using it, and i'm not confident about its mass adoption potential.
additionally, i'd like to express my discomfort with the following framing:
“The team is lean and we are confident to deliver a top-tier application with significantly lower cost than comparable clients (House of Nouns at 95 ETH, Agora at 220 ETH and Prop Lot at 60 ETH).”
directly comparing to other projects nouns has funded doesn't sit well with me. each project operates in its own unique context and set of challenges. while i believe there was no malintent behind this comparison, i'd appreciate a more considerate approach in future proposals.

the nouns warpcast channel has seen a lot of traction, hopefully this can somehow capitalize - i am for funding this experiment but would require significant traction/adoption for any additional funding
Bill is a great builder with an excellent reputation in the Farcaster ecosystem, and I'm excited to let him cook here on better Nouns/Farc integrations.
(noun40 voting via agora)
i’m for the experiment of a nouns specific farcaster client. the test at the end of 3 months would be user adoption from the nouns community! will keep an eye out for updates
Abstaining but also want to leave feedback in case there is a resubmission.
I’m also a fan of a Nouns specific client! It would be very cool to have a Nouns mobile social app that offers a wider end to end experience.
I do think that this experiment would be more successful with some additional design iteration on ux and polish, going by the current Aburra iOS app. I think that cleaner ux will be important for user adoption, since the proposal includes a lot of scope that can easily become complex.
Been trying to make up my mind on this, with mixed results —
Im fundamentally pro funding nouns clients and happy that billzh & team are spending their time on this.
Im also pro merging the worlds of farc and nouns -- its an interesting space to mess around in.
On the other hand, im not convinced this app will see wide adoption (biggest problems imo is focus and design), so its hard to provide a wholehearted 'stamp of approval'.
Im abstaining for now, but would be easily swayed to a yes if i see more organic usage from the core nouns community.

I'm all for improving proposal visibility and voter turnout for nounish DAOs, especially integrating it into Farcaster which is a great home for DAO engagement.
I like the idea of a fc specific nouns client. Ask is reasonable. Cant wait to see what this team cooks up.

The ask is reasonable and experimenting with Farcaster has a good potential.

The Nouns community is already a significant user of Farcaster. Funding additional Nouns-specific Farcaster work is an interesting experiment, and more likely to succeed than past attempts thanks to the existing userbase. Interested in the results.

sense is there is a lot of cultural upside to having differentiated frontends, esp for social platforms. +1 70 , and prof re: gov integration
I love seeing more solutions for communities to gather that are not owned the big tech giants. Let them cook.
Agree with Noun12 that demand may be limited and understand that concern but I think developing onchain media is important and this particular client allows for voting while in the space during a voice chat. I think it presents a new DAO centric approach and I'd like to see it developed further not only for Nouns but other nounish DAOs as well.
Agree with 12, however, my hope is that this isn't just "another client" but fundamentally a different app that leverages the Farcaster protocol and the Nouns community in a new way. I urge the developers to experiment and try to re-imagine the fun of social, with Nouns.

Twitter Spaces are an important format but Twitter is not very Nounish. Farcaster + Aburra is very Nounish. Excited for Nouns to support this software and further move our comms stack towards platforms that share our values
We don't have enough users or demand, as evidenced from all our spend on other clients like HoN that are unused, to get value from this.
Alphacaster and what they are building off farcaster for nouns makes a lot of sense to keep funding. The future of nouns is on farcaster.
Generally in support of grants to developers trying to build new consumer-grade experiences, especially since there seems to be a lot of engagement with Nouns in the farcaster ecosystem. The budget of 24E for 6 man-months seems reasonable.
