On-chain proposal using the filters
Simple GIFs made with Snap AR filter noggles, see Tenor page.
The Snap filters I created previously were used by the Dota2 Esport team (See Grand Finals livestream), the Noun Square team (see PropHouse winners interview), Nounish videos (currently in production) and can be seen in some on-chain proposals and memes across Twitter and Discord.
There is an increasing demand for Nounish content creation tools, and I often get the question: "Wen my Noun in AR?".
We are in the media propagation phase of Nouns, and with the expectation of AR-VR glasses becoming a main computational platform in the near future, Nouns should be AR-ready.
I propose to craft an initial set of 50 heads as expressive Augmented Reality filters, with responsive eyes, mouth, and eyebrows motion, as well as fun animations, depending on each Noun (e.g. a dripping brush, a fin flapping shark etc).
These filters will be simultaneously published on Snapchat, Instagram, and TikTok.
Nouns AR filters can be used for :
I initially received funding from NSFW to create the AR glasses on Snapchat, then won two Prophouse rounds (round 5 and round 7) which funded 8 additional filters bringing the total on Snapchat to 13.
The frog head has been ported to TikTok and Instagram as a feasibility test.
For this proposal I will create:
- 50 Noun heads on TikTok with the ability to switch between the 23 glasses colors using a simple screen tap. Creating these requires Effect House, TikTok’s AR filter authoring tool.
- 50 Noun heads on Instagram with the ability to switch between the 23 glasses colors using a simple screen tap. Creating these requires SparkAR, Meta’s AR filter authoring tool.
🐸 Try the Instagram frog head Also available on FB and Messenger video calling
- 37 additional Noun heads on Snapchat (bringing the total published on Snapchat to 50) with the ability to switch between 23 glasses colors using a simple screen tap. Creating these requires Studio Lens, Snap's AR filter authoring tool.
Snap Lenses are particularly interesting because they:
🐸 Try the Snap Frog head here 🦈 Try the Snap Shark head here 🤖 Try the Snap Robot head here (You can use your phone and the Snapchat app or your desktop with Snap camera)
I have been optimizing this pipeline for some time, and each trait needs custom animations depending on its shape. The geometry has to be considered individually, and some traits are more challenging than others. This is a similar process to what I went through when translating all 2D Nouns to 3D voxels with 3Dnouns.com. You can speed up the pipeline with work habits and experience, but each head requires specific attention to craft the Nounish details that make the difference.
I will share metrics from the different social platforms with the community. Here are some metrics from the Snapchat filters created with Prophouse funding and some recently published filters on TikTok.
I will import the 50 models to Meta’s and TikTok’s AR authoring software (respectively SparkAR and Effect House) to publish them to Instagram, Messenger, Facebook, and TikTok and reach a wider audience. Regarding the workflow, the 3D assets will be re-used, however, they still need to be imported, positioned, scaled, lit and the animation triggers need to be configured on an individual basis and depending on each software capabilities. From a technical standpoint Snap Lens Studio > SparkAR > TikTok Effect house. My goal is to make each Noun head as consistent as technically possible across all different platforms. See Frog head above.
I will deliver between 10 and 20 heads per month, released on the three platforms simultaneously as they are created. I will create community requested heads first, and otherwise will craft the traits that I think will be the most successful. 👉Here is an open To-do if you want to add your favorite traits to the list: https://www.notion.so/Filters-List-1b12bdc8b51e42f4b726b650b3784f7a
For the Prophouse winning rounds, I suggested 4 filters for 2 ETH, when ETH was around 1800-2000 USD. The market price for such 3D AR lenses sits between 1500-5000 USD per filter. For reference, this MAYC filter I created was commissioned by LollaPalooza for Snapchat and IG and was around 5k USD - It is a little more complex with many eyes and snot coming out of the nose.
With ETH currently around 1200 USD, I adjusted the price to 3 filters for 2 ETH, around 800 USD.
Setting up the geometry and creating the expressions system for each of the 37 heads in Blender. (37/3) * 2 = 24.7
Porting the geometry to TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, setting up the animation triggers and publishing to these platform with consistent tagging and video previews. I am estimating this work at 0.18 ETH per filter for a total of 137 filters. (50 on TikTok + 50 on Instagram + 37 on Snapchat) * 0.18 = 24.7
This brings the total ask at 49.4 ETH with an average price of 0.36 ETH per filter.

Happy to be here, and build with my internet friends.
Thank you for reading this proposal!
Feel free to tag me on Twitter or Discord to answer any questions. I hope this leads to more nounish content being created and more people getting exposed to the meme!

CoralOrca has been building in the Nouns ecosystem since before Nouns were launched (really) and the AR filters he has made so far are really high quality. I have personally used them often to make content for The Noun Square videos. I would have liked to have seen more information in the prop about efforts to market the AR filters to get more use, but I will just ask Coral here on chain to please focus on that aspect as part of his efforts if this passes. Getting more filters ready for prime time and then maybe making a quick 'how to use these' video for new folks would be a start. Maybe pay to have them promoted on Snap/Insta/TikTok, and make sure other subdaos like Gnars, Esports, etc all know how to make use of them for maximum impact.

I generally like the idea and the execution quality of these. My main concern is whether getting 50 more is the priority vs finding specific people and nouns to make them for, one at a time.
Seems like the usage discrepancy between the most popular and least popular filters are rather large, so it's not clear to me that increasing the quantity is the highest priority right now.
I'd be excited to vote for a new version of this prop that combined the creation of these filters with the sourcing of specific people & occasions to use them
Nice prop. I also like how there is a clear cost breakdown. Other props should do similar breakdowns that involve market prices, time, rate, etc.
Don’t forget to 3d filter my Nounicorn found here:

Genuinely indecisive. This was the first nouns dao prop I failed to vote via lil nouns because i've been unsure so I will just abstain.
Love the existing ones and think these have the power to land in the faces of people that aren’t already in the space if they’re staples in all the apps that use them. ⌐◨-◨
