Why Sailing?

I (fiveoceans_dev) have been sailing for 11 years and recently combined my passion for sailing and love of Nouns by organizing a regatta through Seoul (funded by Prop 102). Sailing is one of the most prestigious sports and often gets attention of the media, guests, and residents. It's enjoyable to participate in, to watch live, and creates beautiful images and video to share.

Nouns in the New York Harbor

NFT.NYC is only four months away. Most likely NFT and web3 projects are going to run the same promotions with posters and billboards. Why not make something different?

Following the success of Prop 102, I would like to organize a sailing event on April 9th in New York with help of Manhattan Yacht Club. The NFT.NYC sailing event is going to be order of magnitute larger to match the gravity of the legendary New York.

I will put together a fleet of seven J/24 sailboats and one bigger sailboat in New York bay with Nounish sails. We are going to invite Nounish people and sail together from New Jersey to Manhattan, Brooklyn Bridge, and the Statue of Liberty.

We'll be using J/24 sailboats for this event because it is the world's most popular one-design keelboat. It is a classic Porsche of sailing and respected by all sailors. It is easy to sail and looks beautiful when you get up the Nounish spinnakers.

Interactive Community Building

The plan is to make teams of 3 experienced sailors and 3-4 guests for each boat. The guests will be able to actively participate by steering boats and trimming sails. We are going to use one bigger boat to accomodate all guests and swap guests on boats near the Statue Of Liberty so all the guests can get full experience. 100 people will be invited, with priority to for the Nouns community. 20 invitations will be sent to special NFT.NYC attendees (media, artists, etc.)

It is going to be unforgettable experience. Later, we can gather together at Manhattan Yacht Club's clubhouse and share a few beers.

Let's enjoy early spring sailing in NYC together and use this unique opportunity as a team building and proliferating event. A lot of New Yorkers and visitors are going to see Nouns logos during NFT.NYC and posted on social networks.

All events/locations before and during the event will be documented and all media will be regularly shared with the nounish ⌐◨-◨ team and posted on social networks.

Nouns branded sail designs

Based on sail inventory availabe at Manhattan Yacht Club, it would be best to buy both mainsail and spinnaker sails. The available at manhattan yacht club sails have mount gay rum logos and wouldn't look good during our photo ops.

Discussions on sail designs and upcomming events will be posted on twitter and nounish discord.

After NFT.NYC, the sails will be shipped and stored in my yacht club, in korea for possible future Nounish events.

There are four different design options availbe

1. same color fabric, red noggles
2. same color fabric, different color noggles
3. different color fabrick, red noggles
4. different color fabric, different color noggles

IMO most of the beautiful thing about nouns community is collective hacking, designing, and thinking. I would like to get feedback from community to find best sail designs.

Budget

Nouns NFT.NYC sailing photo op & team building

We going to invite as many people as possible, starting with Nounish folks. The event would be a best way to proliferate Nouns and organize a team building event for Nounish people.

• $24,000 Chartering fees for 7+ boats at Manhattan Yacht Club
  • I received quote of $3,800 per boat for a general public
  • The price might go down after I send an official request from my yacht club
• $35,000 Nouns sails inventory for 7+ boats
  • (branded spinnakers and mainsails)
  • I wil keep all the sails safe for future possible events. For example, NFT.NYC sailing event in 2024!
• $10,000 Small travel grants for sailing teams comming from Seattle, San Francisco, Texas, Michigan, Maryland.
  • We need experienced crew to operate sailboats.
  • The plan is to make teams of 3 pro sailors and 3-4 guests per one boat
• $15,000 Safety and media motor boats etc
  • It is very important to have a couple motor boats available for media or in the case of emergency
• $5,000 The big boat is going to accomodate more guests. Later, on the way back from the Statue Of Liberty, we aregoing to swap guests and give more people chance to experience J/24 sailing.
  • NFT.NYC is a big event and we might want to invite a lot of interesting people to the Nouns sailing event
  • Also, some parts of New York bay is no fly zone for drones so it would be best to put a few photographers on a bigger boat
• $15,000 photo/video team
• $5,000 Nouns branded t-shirts and caps to look like a true team (120 pcs)
• $5,000 BBQ, beers, and rum for after party at Manhattan Yacht Club
• $21,000 expenses for operations team including me; $7k per person (I will need at least two reliable people with sailing experience with me to organize 7+ sailboats, photo ops, coordinate everyone etc; getting ready venue and boats 2 days before the event; 2 days cleaning boats and packing everything after the event)
• $15,000 budget for unexpected expenses and price offset (we can use some money to make invitations, rent more sailboats, buy more sails, stickers for boats, add more safety measures, shipping or storage for sails after the event etc)
• $10,000 I would like to request a small compensation for my efforts to plan the event for next 3 months.

Total: $160,000 or ~134 ETH (1 ETH = $1,200)

We are asking for $160,000. It is a lot of money but it is worth every dollar if you look at everything we are going to accomplish.
